In the region of Castro Verde and Mértola several habitat types can be found, from the steppe like areas of Castro Verde to the hills and cliffs of the Guadiana River in Mértola.

In a tour of 1 or 2 days it is possible to see almost all the birds of prey that occur in our territory.

At any time of the year you can see Iberian Imperial Eagle, Golden Eagle, Bonelli’s Eagle, Black Vulture and Griffon vulture, Buzard, Peregrine Falcon and also the smaller species of this group such as Black-winged Kite and Common Kestrel.

In the spring, they are joined by Booted Eagle, Short-toed eagle, Black Kite, Montagu’s Harrier and Lesser Kestrel.

In winter a few other species turn up, namely Hen Harrier, Red Kite and Merlin.
